When listening to music I like to construct my own mental video to match it. Certain songs more than others invoke imagary, one such track is “Heartbeat” by Robyn:
A lot of the videos I envisage are influenced by science fiction. The strings playing constantly throughout the track combined with the lyrics give a sad tone, while the electronica sound definitely makes me think of travelling though space. So my video for this has some kind of space-born entity (I actually picture Moya from Farscape) who is heartbroken, speeding away from it’s former lover at the speed of light, passing beautiful nebulae in an attempt to run away from it’s feelings.
I am so up to date with music I have just discovered this BRAND NEW ARTIST, Eliza Doolittle. So new she released her album in the summer last year. After hearing the track playing in two consecutive shops I decided to find out who it was. I was pleasantly surprised to see the album was just shy of £4 on iTunes so I thought why not. That kind of pricing and convenience renders all pro-piracy talk irrelevant in my eyes.
Yes it is another very pretty lady singing very pretty songs. If that were a genre it would be the one I’ve most gravitated towards in the past few years. I don’t care what the whisperers say about me though.
(See what I did there? HAAA! No? Ok check out my so far favourite track of the album, “Pack Up”)
Today’s post is highlighting the awesomeness of the track “Invaders Must Die” by The Prodigy:
I first came across it yesterday as my friend Rob told me the new trailer for Crysis 2 was out and said I should check it out (he works at Crytek). I was suitably impressed, but also loved the track they played. A little Google-fu later and I saw it was by The Prodigy. I like a lot of their stuff, but only on the level of having their ‘best of’ CD. This track however I’d probably say is one of their best.
Later I watched the new trailer for Duke Nukem Forever, and low and behold they’re using the same track in their trailer. An unfortunate coincidence for the PR people of both companies but hey ho, it’s a great track.
Then I started to get the urge to buy the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World DVD. I was a bit underwhelmed by the film when I went to see it, probably because it was over-hyped. But it would be worth another go. So I was looking online at prices and decided to re-watch the trailer. What track is playing through the trailer? Yep, ‘Invaders Must Die’. It’s funny I thought I’d never heard the track before but obviously it had triggered something in my brain which reminded me it was linked to Scott Pilgrim.
The track does have a very video-game sound to it and is extremely energetic. I imagine if I ever actually mustered the energy to go running, this would be on repeat. Being the lazy arse that I am, I have forgone the running but am still listening to it almost on repeat. Decided to get the album too, but so far can’t get past track 1 due to said obsession with the title track.
So yeah, after all these years The Prodigy are still capable of producing amazing tunes. Now, off to finish watching Scott Pilgrim. I imagine tomorrow’s post will be a love letter to Ramona Flowers.
No I’m not being rude, but I am completely addicted to the new track from Cee-lo Green. You know, the voice of Gnarls Barkley. There is a ‘clean’ version where they change the words to “Forget You” so it should still do well with radio/tv plays but I think you have to listen to it in it’s original form to really enjoy it:
